i used to think if i chose to say yes to Jesus
i would have to let go of my study of the Buddha
now i realize you can be both. you can read the Bible. you can gain wisdom that way.
but there is a related, but different kind of wisdom in Buddhism.
i’m reading the work of Joanna Macy
and i love what i’m reading
and she is rooted in the Buddhist perspective
but she wants to save the world. save the environment. save the species of animals and plants. stop the mass extinction.
stop the militarism, the endless war.
“world as lover, world as self.” that’s what i’m reading.
i can say yes to Jesus, when Jesus talks about loving neighbor as thyself, and loving God
but i can also say yes to the wisdom of Hinduism, Buddhism, and try in my own way to solve the problems
—-heal the brokenness of the world.
i have great respect for Shelley Lubben as well.
she takes people from the degrading and evil lifestyle of pornography
and fills them with hope that God has new plans for their life.
